Little Shop Of Horrors might be my favorite show from Peach State’s summer season. Working as Props ASM as well as crew head, I had plenty to keep me busy, and I was frequently onstage transitioning the puppets or set dressing while our “shop front” flat was flown in. As the person backstage with the most experience working with the Audrey II puppets other than the puppeteers themselves, a large part of my responsibility on this production revolved around making sure they were safe and the puppets were set up properly.

This show had a cast of 11 and a deck crew of 4. One of my biggest challenges was confirming that we were physically set for the top of both acts. Each act had a drastically different preset, which included swapping out a plexiglass window on our shop front flat. During intermission in particular, everyone had to work as fast as possible to be sure that we would be set on time.
This show was particularly choreographed backstage, as there were many exceptionally fast transitions and handoffs, which often also included quick changes. Many of our puppet transitions had to be perfectly timed, and I was in charge of making sure everything was set and ready on time.
