This was the largest and most ambitious production for our summerstock season. This production had 27 cast members, 6 of which were children, and a deck and rail crew of 7, who I was managing. On top of being crew head and the stage right ASM, I was also functioning as a deck electrician to set up and operate our fog and cold spark machines.

This show had by far the most scenic elements of our season, including the witch’s castle, which required 3 people to move, and its corresponding staircases, which used an additional 2 total. The witch’s castle had a trapdoor utilized for the melting sequence, which was operated by 2 crew members, with the deck electrician manning the fog machine. Much of my challenge for this production was making sure that each transition could physically happen. Dealing with caveats such as both automated and hemp linesets, each of which were only allowed to be operated by specific crew members, meant that I had to think outside of the box for many of our transitions in order to keep them fast and clean.

Below are photos I took from before the first day of Q2Q, as a way to record the way we had preset all Act 1 scenic elements. This is something I do frequently, as its easy to remember what went wrong, but harder to remember what to change to fix the problem.
